Extra-Curricular Programs

CYO - (Catholic Youth Organization) Saint Luke CYO is open to all members of Saint Luke Parish, including Saint Luke School. CYO offers activities in the areas of athletics, socials, and service. Most activities are open to students in grades 5-8, and include: Sports Teams (Field Hockey, Volleyball, Football, Basketball, Track, Cross Country, Softball, and Baseball), Variety Show, Villa Volunteers, Cooking for St. John's Hospice, Aid for Friends, Ronald McDonald House, Operation Santa Claus, Cultural Arts Festival, One Act Play, Dorney Park Trip, Dances (Grades 7-8), Haunted Hay Ride (Grades 5-6), Pizza Social (Grades 5-6).

Chess Club Students from Saint Luke School may participate in Chess Club, organized through Silver Knights Chess (www.silverknightschess.com). The program runs during the months of April and May at school, and registration information is distributed through school.

Investment Club Saint Luke Investment Club is designed to teach students about investment topics in an enjoyable and interactive way. Open to students in grades 6 – 8, the club meets twice per month in the evenings. Students create their own mock stock “portfolio”, track stock returns, hear topical presentations by guest speakers, and participate in discussions about various investment topics.

Music (Instrumental Band, Bell Choir)

Octathlon Students from St. Luke School compete in the Annual Octathlon Event at Bishop McDevitt High School each spring. The Octathlon is an academic competition consisting of a full day of written tests in areas such as Religion, Math, English, and Science, as well as an evening “Super Quiz.” A six-member team from St. Luke’s enters the competition, consisting of two students each from 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. The team prepares for many months with the help of St. Luke teachers.

Reading Olympics Students from Saint Luke School participate in the annual Montgomery County Intermediate Unit Reading Olympics event. Each spring, several teams participate at the Elementary and Middle School levels. Teams read books and prepare for the competition with the help of St. Luke faculty moderators.

Robotics Students involved in the Robotics Team participate in First Lego League (FLL), part of FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) volunteer education organization. Students participate in Design and Research Projects delineated by the FLL involving designing and building robots which accomplish specific tasks and researching areas related to robotics. Students then compete in League competitions, where they test their robots and designs against the work of others.

Safeties Student “Safeties” assist faculty with daily school dismissal procedures. Safeties maintain order as the student body readies for dismissal, and ensure that all students arrive at their bus, car, or walking drop-off point safely.

SLATS – “Saint Luke Apprentice Technology Specialists”
Student members of the SLATS team perform various tasks to keep school computers running smoothly, under the direction of the Technology coordinator. Assignments have included running windows updates, downloading and running spyware removal programs, checking on virus updates, and defragmenting the hard drives.

Student Ambassadors St. Luke Student Ambassadors assist at events including Open Houses, meetings, special Masses, and school tours. Ambassadors greet visitors and represent St. Luke School in a polite and professional manner at special events, under the direction of the Principal and Director of Development.

Summer Stock Participation in the annual Summerstock theatrical performance is open to all members of Saint Luke Parish, including Saint Luke School. Rehearsals take place three times per week during the months of late June and July, and the production is performed at the Keswick Theater during the first week of August.
