WORD 2003

Microsoft Word 2003 is the word processor that we use at Saint Luke School. If you have this program at home that is great! If you do not and you want to purchase it you can purchase Academic versions which cost a lot less than the regular versions. As a student your child is eligible for the Academic Version. I have seen the Academic bundles at Staples and on line at http://www.journeyed.com There are other websites to purchase these versions at. The bundles include excel and powerpoint which are other programs that children will be learning at school. These versions are less than $150.00. If they could come home and practice what they learned at school these skills could really be retained much more then if they just use them once a week in computer class.
There are many lessons in Word on this page. These are the lessons that the children at School use in Computer Classes. Anyone can do these lessons but the saving directions will not apply as only the students can save to the school network.

At Saint Luke School we start to use Microsoft Word as early as First Grade. In First Gradeit is just a matter of opening the program, and inserting text such as their name. They will do a little formatting such as bold, underline, and italic but not much more than that. Second grade learns to change the font colors, font types, font size and save files. In third grade the learning process begins to prepare them to do projects and homework assignments in fourth grade and up. Each grade learns more and more skills in Word. You can look on the computer lab page, click on GOALS, to see what different grades will be learning. As with anything else some classes get further then others but this will give you a general understanding of what is being taught.
