CYO Dance Permission Slip

St Luke the Evangelist Junior CYO holds 4 – 6 dances, each school year, for all 7th & 8th grade members.  The dances are held to give our children not only “something to do” but also enables them to interact with students of other parishes.  All 7th & 8th grade students, with current CYO Picture ID cards, are welcome to attend our dances and to attend the open dances of our neighboring parishes.  Most of these parishes join together each year in September to coordinate the dance dates, to set rules, prices and times and for standardization.

  • All students attending the dances are expected to behave respectably towards each other as well as towards the chaperones and the DJ.  It is up to the discretion of the dance coordinators to ban any student from a St Luke’s dance.  We require a respectable dress code – no halters or open- backed shirts; no foul language t-shirts.
  • We uphold a zero tolerance for alcohol and/or drugs.
  • Once a student enters a dance they cannot leave unit the dance is over unless accompanied by their own parent or guardian.
  • No backpacks or bags of any kind may be brought to the dances.
  • All of our dances are from 7:30 – 10:00 PM Sharp!!  We ask parents to pick up their children promptly.  For the safety of these children, please pick up by entering the parking lot from Easton Road and exiting on Roberts Avenue.

St Luke’s dances draw a crowd of 100 to 200 students for any given dance.  We, therefore, require 15 – 20 chaperones, in addition to the coordinators.  We require both a male and a female presence.  It is IMPERATIVE that we have this many chaperones for the safety of all the students in attendance.  IT IS MANDATORY THAT EACH PARENT VOLUNTEER TO CHAPERONE ONE DANCE PER SCHOOL YEAR.  It is only a three (3) hour time commitment.  Students must understand that their parents must attend one dance.  If enough chaperones are not found by Wednesday night before a Friday night dance, the dance will be cancelled.  The dances can only continue with the support of  ALL 7TH & 8TH grade members’ parents.

The attached permission slip must be signed by both parent and student indicating acceptance of all rules.  Dance cards are distributed only after receipt of this permission slip.  Please indicate your date preference for chaperoning.  You will be reminded a week prior to your scheduled dance.  The 06-07 dances are scheduled for:

                              September 15, 2006               October 27, 2006                   November 17, 2006

                                          January 12, 2007                               April 27, 2007

The dances are a lot of fun and we enjoy offering them to our students.  We thank you for your cooperation.
