Tuesday: Religion and Language Arts

Wednesday: Math and Social Studies

Thursday: Science

Friday: Spelling and any make up exams

Next week will be a busy week as well.  The students are off on Monday, Field Day is Tuesday (with a rain date of Wednesday), Thursday is bucket day (cleaning supplies and gym clothes) and Friday is our closing prayer service and dismissal at 10:30.

It has been a wonderful year and I am so glad I had the opportunity to have you children in class this year.  Enjoy these last 2 weeks, as summer is literally around the corner!

May God Bless You!

March 22, 2011

Dear Parents,

It is great to be back. I missed all of the boys and girls while I was gone.

A few items of interest:

There will not be a new spelling list this week, however, the students will be given the spelling words on Wednesday to begin studying for next week.

I am very impressed with the cursive writing of the students.  By April, we will be writing in cursive full time, unless specified by me.  This includes homework.  (Please help your child to remember this so they do not have to re-do printed homework at recess.)

Look for more updates on what we are doing in the next week or so!

May God bless you!

Mrs. DiCamillo

 November 8, 2010

Dear Parents,

Can you believe that we have made it to November!  As always, we are working hard in Room 103.

The time has come for First Holy Communion.  We have been learning all about the Mass and the celebration of the sacrament.  We are all very excited for our special day next week!

This week we will begin praying the Morning Offering prayer. There will be a copy of this prayer glued in your child's Religion copybook. The prayer will be divided into sections. We will be praying the whole prayer each morning, but I would ask you to please review the section/sections we have learned up to every night. This will only help your child to commit this prayer to memory faster.

In Science we began our new chapter on Rocks and Soil.  We will hopefully have a test on this material next Friday (Nov. 19). Be sure to check the calendar and your child's homework book for any possible changes to this date.

We will be talking about the Pilgrims, Native Americans, and the First Thanksgiving in Social Studies in preparation for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Math finds us working with addition of greater numbers with and without renaming among other addition skills.  Please be sure to review the math homework with your child to better help them understand the concepts.  I plan on testing on this chapter before the Thanksgiving break.  Check the calendar/homework book for a date for this test.

In addition to reading every night for 15 minutes, I ask that you please study the multiplication fact for 1's and 2's.  We will be adding 3's towards the end of this week.  We will also begin taking "mad minute" quizzes on these three sets of facts next week.

If you have any questions, as always, feel free to send me an email or write me a note and send it in with your child.

Thank you for everything you do for your child.

God Bless!

~Mrs. DiCamillo

October 7, 2010

Dear Parents,

It is hard to believe we are just about through the first week in October.  We have been very busy in Room 103 working on lots of interesting topics!

We are just a little over a month away from First Eucharist! We will be working hard in school to prepare for this wonderful day. Please remember that the Activity Day is this Saturday.

A paper will be coming home shortly about our field trip to the Elmwood Zoo. We will be going to the zoo on October 22, and would love if you could join us!  Please note on the return form/permission slip if you are able to accompany us to the zoo. It is a great trip and the children really enjoy learning about all of the different animals.

Just a quick note:  If you have any old magazines such as Woman's Day or Family Circle please send them in at any time. We will often use them to cut out pictures for class activities and projects.Thank you!

Please also be sure to check the class calendar for test and project dates.

September 2010

Dear Parents and Students,

Welcome back!  Third grade is going to be a very exciting year!

One of the first projects we will be doing the few days of school is one that your child the opportunity to show off and tell all about themselves.  I would ask that you please send in with your child 2-3 pictures they will be able to use for this project.  (Please keep in mind these pictures will be glued to the project when selecting photos for use.)  I would ask that the pictures be sent in no later than Friday, September 10, 2010.

Please also be on the look out for a letter regarding the stationery fee for the school year.

I will be sending the workbooks and copybooks home in phases to be covered in clear contact paper.  Please be sure that ALL paperback workbooks and copybooks are covered.  The students will have one text book (math)  they need to cover with your help.  Please cover this text book with a brown paper bag.

Enjoy the last few hours of summer!

Academics

Homework: Homework will be written in each student's Homework book each night.  Please sign the book each night after you have checked homework for completion.  If there are any questions about the work, please write a note in the subject copybook or on separate paper not the homework assignment book. *Remember: Studying is many times a big part of your child's homework.*

Projects: Most of our projects are done in school.  They most often go along with the things we are doing in a particular subject area. Students are graded on information, writing, layout, creativity, artwork, and above all neatness.

ILA (English, Reading, Spelling, Writing and Penmanship): All of these subjects work together and are taught together.  Your child will compose many different types of writing over the course of the year.  Each writing piece will be kept in a folder as a way to establish a writing portfolio and to track progress over the course of the year. It is extremely important that your child read every night for at least 15 minutes.  We will also be completing book reports several times throughout the year.

Religion: This is a very important time in your child's life.  The thrust of the beginning of this year will be the preparation for, and reception of First Eucharist. We will also cover the topics of the life of Jesus and Mary, the sacraments, the commandments, feast days of Mary and the Saints, the Mass and our life as good Christians.

Math: We will be working on the review of addition and subtraction with and without renaming, as well as time, money, and geometry.  A large part of our time will be spent on multiplication and division.  It is extremely important that your child memorize multiplication facts as they will be tested on them on a regular basis.

Social Studies: Your child will now be responsible for material taught in this area.  We will be studying about the world through the use of maps. We will also cover many interesting topics such as presidents, communities and their needs, family heritage, the history of our country, and the Amish, just to name a few. They will need to study as we go along as they will be tested in these areas.

Science: Your child will be introduced to the scientific method and we will do many experiments throughout the year. We will also cover topics such as the sun and the planets, the water cycle, life cycles of insects and animals, the food chain and nutrition.  Tests will also be given in this subject.

I hope this information will be helpful to you. Please feel free to email me any questions or concerns you may have, and I will respond to you as soon as possible.

Thank you and God bless!
